Fly Speck Billy

  1. hanged by a mob - some of the reports we get from the USA would suggest that mob-justice still rules in many places.

  2. Billy broke a cardinal rule. Don't kill a man with lots of friends.

  3. Teamster Abe Barnes had given outlaw Fly Speck Billy a ride on this freight wagon from central Nebraska to Custer, SD. Abe was involved in a poker game and refused Billy's drunken request to drink with him at the bar. BIlly killed him. The mob overpowered the sheriff and deputy, broke Billy out of jail, and hung him. This is one reason they call it the "wild west."

  4. Fly Speck Billy is a great name. Wonder how he got that from James?

    1. Not sure where the "Billy" came from, but he was called "Fly Speck" because he was covered with freckles, also as an outlaw he didn't want his real name known.

  12. Now, this was not in the history books I read. Looks like a fine place to sit and tell tall tales with buddies.
