Lowell, yes that is harrowing. I was attracted by it's wooden structure, and it's patterns. Old machinery is all around here if I keep my eyes open. This has been farm country for a long time, and old machinery rarely gets thrown out. It collects in tree shelter belts and along fence rows. The trick is to get there when the light is good.
This wooden harrow was likely pulled by horses across a field to smooth the surface prior to planting. There are metal spikes driven through the wood which loosen and spreads soil evenly. Yes, I mostly like the shapes and surfaces of this old farm machinery.
These recent pictures are a nice series.
ReplyDeleteLooks harrowing to me! Where do you find all of these old implements?

ReplyDeleteAh ... rust and parallel lines ... two of my favourite things!
ReplyDeleteLove the old machinery photos. I do not know what a tooth harrow does but it looks wicked.
