  1. My goodness, I missed a few days here. Terrific rodeo photos. We lived in Mesquite, Texas for about four years and Mesquite has a famous rodeo which we would attend occasionally. I knew a couple of people who were involved. It was always a great show, except when the Baptist preacher began singing "I come to the garden alone." Yikes!

    1. Hi Lowell. The rodeo is a collegiate sport here, and many of the contestants go on to PRCA professional rodeo where they can make excellent money as long as they are healthy. The rodeo stock is provided by the Sutton Ranch who provides stock for the PRCA finals in Las Vegas, so it is first rate. Tried to photograph some of the action.

  2. You've captured these action shots quite well, not an easy task. I want to see barrel racers: )

  3. This is a world of which I have no experience whatsoever. I don't even know it it's a violent sport (like bull fighting) or for display only.

    1. Hi Lucy. Rodeo grew out of skills needed on cattle ranches. A cowboy's boast is that they can ride anything, and bareback, saddle bronc, and bull riding grew from that boast. Steer wrestling and calf roping are two other cattle skills. This sport is mostly violent on the cowboys themselves. Few animals are injured, so no, it isn't like bull fighting.
