    I see the holes in the ice. About your question about the cars in the canals it is difficult to get those numbers but I guess it no more then 10 by accident in a year. More are dumped by crime. For the whole of the Netherlands I found a number of deaths by drowning in 2000 and that were 22.

      Oh Yes, thick ice is covered with snow on all our lakes.
