Canada geese

This large flock of Canada geese has decided to spend the winter here in very cold temperatures. I have no idea why this water is open. There are pickup trucks driving on the ice in other parts of the lake.

  1. I went out to the pumphouse a couple of nights ago-- to turn the heat lamp we use to prevent the pressure gauge or valves from freezing. It was 95 percent dark, but I was surprised to hear a bunch of Canada Geese flying over the house-- complaining about the cold. Seems to me that they would be settled in someplace by that time.

  5. thecontemplativecat here. I grew up along the Mississippi, in Illinois, close to Hannibal MO. After Dad finished harvesting, the geese arrived in a collection of cornfields where loose kernels were for the taking. The fields were covered by geese. Geese are amazing creatures, not exceptionally friendly. In fact, don't mess with them.
