This 1902 water tower is called the "Tin Man" because its silhouette is like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. The structure is 135 feet tall and the tank holds 150,000 gallons of water. This water tower is one of four currently in service, but the Tin Man is scheduled to be replaced by a 500,000 gallon tank that will replace two old water towers.

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of one in my hometown. 50 years ago. The rite of passage for HS male seniors was to climb to the top and do something. Probably urinate.

I've often thought that someone should hang a flushing handle on a water tower like this... Well, it IS April Fool's Day!
ReplyDeleteJust got a Kevin Costner movie the Tin Man, not sure what it is about. There are a few towers that were modeled as coffee pots around me.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your shots before it's replaced
ReplyDeleteSo, now I have the song running through my head, thanks!! I hope they leave it standing. I'm so glad you linked up at My Corner of the World!
