I like two things about the first sign: The fact that it is painted right on the brick and, to use the words that Halcyon said, "I like those old timey finger signs"!
Hi Red, the sign with the hand is original in the old Lincoln, Nebraska train station, but the tracks are gone. There is a new train station a few miles away.
I like those old timey finger signs. Cute!
ReplyDeletelovely old signs - I used to live for a time behind a shop that sold old signs like these.
ReplyDeleteGreat -- I remember when those kind of signs were much more common. They're really quite beautiful -- not throwaways.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful signs.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to note that directions to the tracks sign is actually painted onto the bricks.

ReplyDeleteWe rarely use a pointing finger anymore, which is a shame.
ReplyDeleteI remember the pointing signs from years ago. Seldom se them now. The old markers in the second sot are especially historical and nice. genie
ReplyDeleteGreat signs but then I have to ask are these restored signs or are they still in use?

DeleteI really like a directional sign that has the hand pointing to the direction instead of just arrow.
ReplyDeleteI can still see signs like this her but not a lot and not as beautiful as the ones in the pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhere does one find steam engines these days?
ReplyDeleteMostly in train museums and in static displays. This one is next to the old Lincoln, Neb train station.
DeleteI like these old signs. The hand is great and to the point. :))
ReplyDeleteGreat signs...I love trains!
ReplyDeleteMy dad worked forty years for our national railways, and I am always fond of trains and anything related!
