The antique single row corn picker is likely from the 1940s. Note it rides on rubber tires and is PTO driven, not common until the 1940s. It might be a Deerborn Woods corn picker, or not. Looking at the new John Deere picker-sheller, it is obviously a huge investment not appropriate for the small family farm. This is a clear indication of the corporate nature of agriculture requiring large farm size, and small numbers of farmers. These trends spell the death of the small, rural town.
