Antique Medicines

  1. I find these very interesting. I wonder how well they worked. I notice the second one has 12% alcohol!

    1. No idea how they worked, probably did. The 12% alcohol make it 24 proof. But the dose is likely to be a tablespoon only. Found these in a display of historic medicines.

  2. Having spent my entire career in the pharmaceutical business, I always enjoy finding and looking at what was considered medicine many years ago. Very interesting post and photos.

    1. If medicine wasn't awful tasting it just couldn't work, right? Federal regulation has eliminated those medicines that don't work or are poisonous. At least I hope it has.

    1. There may be medicines nearly this old in my medicine cabinet, but no. This was at a hospital.

  4. I'm not sure I'd swallow them but I love these old labels and tins!

  5. Scary to think people actually used these things!

  6. blackberry and balsam, odd ingredients to fix that awful condition. I have a vintage milk of magnesia bottle (cobabt blue, my fave color) and a clear citrate of magnesia bottle with a wire and, I'm guessing, enamel plug.

    1. I remember the terrible taste of cod liver oil as a kid. May that be another childhood memory to disappear. Didn't see any in this display.
