Rail Road Derailment

On Friday about 7:00 pm a car with two people ignored a railroad crossing gate and flashing lights. They hit the freight train derailing it. The car burst into flame and both passengers died. The derailed cars piled up and ran into a grain elevator. This rail line will be closed for several days as repairs are being made.

Oscar Howe's Art

The Smithsonian had a retrospective of Oscar Howe's art in 2022, and that show is now on display at the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, SD. It is a most impressive show.

 

Oscar Howe's Corn Palace Murals

Oscar Howe was a Native American artist from South Dakota whose art was inspired by his culture. This was one of his designs for the Corn Palace murals. He designed murals for the Corn Palace from 1948 until 1971.

 

Darya's Cottage

This little cottage is a memorial to Darya. She was the daughter of a neighbor, and was about the same age as my son. They were good friends, more like brother and sister. Sadly, she was murdered by her husband. This cottage is in her memory.
