Colman, SD Elevator

  1. An iconic shot for sure. I wonder how many grain elevators there are in the upper midwest? Probably would need a calculator to add them all up!

    1. Grain elevators like this are disappearing as railroads disappear, and more centrally located, larger elevators dominate.

  3. What a treasure of days past. I would not have know what it was without reading the other responses. My eyes are not swift enough to read the sign on the side of the building. What does the SD stand for? genie

    1. U.S. states are known by two letter postal codes, and SD is the postal code for South Dakota. Colman is a small town about 25 miles north of Sioux Falls, SD.

  4. This looks like the buildings and vehicles that would be part of a train set. It is a fine composition.
