Pelicans Are Back

    1. There are hundreds of lakes in this part of the country. These lakes were created by the last glacial ice age that gouged them out. I live about as far from the sea as is possible. We are close to Minnesota, the land of 1,000 lakes.

    1. Yes, the return of the Pelicans is a sign of spring. I think they winter in Texas or Mexico. Their flight in the air looks effortless, but they struggle to take off and "run" across the water for some distance while flapping hard.

  5. In the first photo the black bird flying next to the pelican is a cormorant. Didn't know pelicans and cormorants flew together.
