  1. I find these pictures very interesting. I've always admired the workmanship that goes into firearms, both antique and modern day. This particular rifle looks in great shape. Is it authentic or a replica? Were the sites being adjusted?

    1. Hi Ed. This rifle is a replica, so it's new. The owner was firing it at a target and saving the brass to reload with black powder which is right for the era of the original rifle. I believe the action is a single shot rolling block activated by pulling the trigger guard down when the hammer is half cocked. To fire it the hammer is pulled all the way back, the back trigger is pulled to activate the front hair trigger. At 100 yards it was accurate to hit a 1-9 inch target. The bullet looked huge and must follow an arch to the target, but hit with a ton of force.

    1. It was interesting to see, and I enjoyed being there when it was being fired. It is a beautiful rifle with a high level of craftsmanship, and it's main purpose should be as a display piece on a wall or in a glass case.
