Swing Bridge

This 1903 railroad double swing bridge across the Missouri River was the longest in the world for half a century. The last train crossed it in 1979, and it has been inoperative since.

  1. WE have one where the mainline switches off a line to the mills. It's still used, but is never moved for non-existent Cowlitz River traffic. Great pictures.

  5. Wonderful black and white! Hope that bridge survives for river lovers and photographers even if it can't be swung shut ever again.
