  3. This is the Miller race car that won the Indy 500 in 1923, the first in a long line of winning Miller cars. As you can see, it is front wheel drive and has inboard brakes for less unsprung weight. The car averaged over 100 mph in the race. Miller built his own engines. His engine builder was a guy named Offinhauser who continued to build Indy car motors into the 1960s.

  4. The Miller car of Tommy Milton, winner of the race, went 108 mph in qualifying, but only 94+mph in the race. That was amazingly fast in 1923.
