The original Old Main building, constructed in 1880, was replaced in 1917, but the clock was saved. This little tower was built in the 1990s to house the four sided clock which keeps time but does not chime. The larger tower does chime using a Westminster chime pattern.
I really do like the architecture of these...
ReplyDeletePity you can’t see if this is equal to the tower of Pisa or just a lens distortion.
ReplyDeleteJust lens distortion. Nothing serious. Heard they began to straighten the Pisa tower so it wouldn't fall over.
DeleteMarvelous find. Clock towers are rarity in this day and age.
ReplyDeleteMuito bonita esta torre do relógio, aproveito para desejar um bom fim-de-semana.

Love the sturdy smaller clock tower TFG, my first thought was the same as s.c. re Leaning Tower of Pisa 😉
ReplyDeleteIt is so good that they saved the old one and coordinated the new one so nicely to it!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, indeed!
ReplyDeleteNice. I wonder if it's because people needed to see the time more accurately than just what for the chimes on the hour?
ReplyDeleteNow that's a pretty pair! Beautiful light and colour in this shot.
