Minneapolis Ford Tractor

The Minneapolis Ford tractor was a failure as a useful tractor, but it did lead to the creation of the universally acknowledged Nebraska Tests for all tractors. Nebraska passed a law in 1919 that any tractor sold in the state had to pass a set of tests to measure drawbar and belt pulley horsepower (later PTO hp), reliability, fuel economy, and engine wear. Farmers and tractor manufacturers World wide pay close attention to the results of the Nebraska tests. The Minneapolis Ford tractor had nothing to do with Henry Ford or his company, but they beat him to the Ford Tractor name so Henry called his tractor the Ford & Son Tractor, later just Fordson.

  2. What a great old piece of machinery. One of the nearby mountain towns has a vintage tractor pull every year.

  3. Sometimes you see by the design itself already that it is a failure. Still a nice memento off old times.

  6. There's an enormous private collection of old tractors right around the corner from us, in Roxbury, CT. It's owned by the patriarch of the Diebold family. He keeps building new barns to house an apparently ever-growing collection. I'm told he extremely knowledgable and passionate about the antique tractors. If you ever get out this way you'd likely enjoy a tour.
