    1. This is an ethanol plant converting corn into alcohol to be added to gasoline. Ethanol production has pushed up the price of corn and added millions of acres of corn fields.

  2. I wonder how energy efficient it is?

    1. In 2016 the U.S. produced 14.5 million gallons of ethanol to be added to gas. It comes from a renewable energy source; corn, sugar, or grass. Ethanol fuels produce less green house gases and are mandated by the EPA. But vehicles made before 2001 should not use this fuel as they were not designed for them. Ethanol is supported by the U.S. government. It is a more or less efficient fuel depending on the price of crude oil.

    2. Not millions of gallons of ethanol, but 14.5 Billion gallons of ethanol.

  3. Love the photo. But from what I've heard we've got tons of corn just sitting around and lots of land converted to growing corn instead of other more healthful products because of the governmental push to use ethanol. But I don't know that much about it.

    1. That is corn, but as large as that pile is, it is only a small percentage of the corn used by this plant.
