  3. This is an historic sign, recently restored. Don't think the bread is made any more. It was a soft, commercial bread like Wonderbread. Not my favorite.

    1. This sign has been a prominent part of the landscape in Des Moines, Iowa for 70 years or more. Think the City wanted it working.

  6. I too have memories of the aroma emanating from the Colonial baker we once had here. Noting like it for bringing forth warm memories.

    1. My frat house backed up on a commercial bakery. The smells coming from it were terrific, but the bread was quite ordinary, a disappointment really.

  9. America might have made pretty forgettable bread back in those days, but we excelled in sign-making.
