  5. It can happen to any one of us. They are fortunate in that at least the weather is warm. We struggle here in New England providing warming shelters for the homeless. Nice images and very thought provoking.

    1. I've heard rumors that there are between 9 and 10 thousand homeless in San Diego. The weather, especially during the day, is pleasant, but nights are around 50 degrees, and that gets chilly. Homelessness has multiple causes, but some of it is lack of any way for some people to earn a living. The homeless here collect cans which they can sell to recycling centers for a little cash, but not much.

  6. In Fort Lauderdale, the powers-that-be are "clamping down" on the homeless, forbidding people to give them food or help them in other ways. They also cannot be on the street carrying any of their meager possessions.

One wonders what the hell has become of this country.

  7. A number of systemic, institutional problems have come together to make millions homeless. Such things as the elimination of manual labor, closing mental hospitals, lack of decent V.A. programs, failure of basic education, epidemic levels of alcoholism and drug additions have all conspired to add to homelessness. Denying help is short sighted and heartless. It just kicks all the problems down the road.

  8. Very sad, Taken. A friend in Sarasota tells me that they are inundated with homeless people because the weather is so comfortable and the city's policies are quite hospitable to troubled individuals, with food, shelters, medical help, etc.
