On Guard

  1. These are great photos, Jeff. I really like the composition of the second one. It looks like the gentleman is being watched by the mountain lion. Very nicely done!

    1. I think these are bobcats, a bit smaller than cougars.

    2. After a bit of reading, I now think they are Canadian Lynx, a related species to the bobcat. Twice the size of a house cat.

    1. While lacking a black cape, this Zorro probably has a sword app on his smart phone.

  3. Fierce looking cats. I won't get in their way for sure!

  5. I applaud public art and, being pretty traditional in my tastes, my applause lasts a bit longer at seeing the very nice realistic sculpture.

  7. Beautiful sculptures, I really like them!
A bit dangerous to sit there, isn't it? :)

  8. Those sculptures are really beautiful and "alive" . Are there such animals in your surroundings ? what are they, lynx, pumas ?..

  9. I believe they are Canadian Lynx, about twice the size of a house cat, but much smaller than a mountain lion. Note their pointed ears and mane on their cheeks. They also have big feet which helps them hunt in snow. Their main diet is snowshoe hares in Canada. Bobcats are slightly smaller, have shorter legs, lack a mane, have smaller feet, and a slightly longer tail, but identification of a single animal is not always easy. Bobcat range covers North America and Mexico while lynx are found in Canada, but their ranges do overlap across the U.S. - Canada boarder, especially in the mountains.

  10. I like the way the cat appears to be looking at the guy's cell phone. Like he's saying "use it and lose it!". :-)
