Two Crane Booms, Bucyrus and Universal

  1. I like photos of antique machines, that people have seem to forgotten. I'm sure at one time these cranes were state of the art and would have been something to see in actions. I particularly like the shadow below the crane in the first image. Nice capture.

  2. Looks like the first one is still functioning and the other is in a graveyard, having done its duty!

  3. Ed and Lowell you are both correct. That first crane is completely functional, but the second is still a project waiting to happen. The working Bucyrus Erie crane will be used to replace the rebuild GM diesel motor shown earlier into another crane not posted here. A restoration specialist just retired from his museum curators position, but he is far from retired from restoring antique machinery.

  4. You do certainly seem to have a knack for locating interesting and beautiful machines. The shadow in the first dhot reminds me of a baby bird standing atop a cage of ice cubes. Can you see it?

    1. OK, I see the baby bird in the shadow, but a cage of ice cubes? Perhaps. Imagination is strange and wonderful. Life would be dull without it.
