Contemporary and Antique Corm Pickers

  1. The antique single row corn picker is likely from the 1940s. Note it rides on rubber tires and is PTO driven, not common until the 1940s. It might be a Deerborn Woods corn picker, or not. Looking at the new John Deere picker-sheller, it is obviously a huge investment not appropriate for the small family farm. This is a clear indication of the corporate nature of agriculture requiring large farm size, and small numbers of farmers. These trends spell the death of the small, rural town.
