Brookings County flooding

Yesterday the local newspaper reported that Brookings County, as well as neighboring counties, gets a disaster declaration from the federal government. Flooding caused over a million dollars damage to infrastructure. Thirty families were flooded out of their homes and spent several nights in emergency shelters.

In September we received about five inches of rain in a single storm. This caused flooding around Brookings County. Here are some of the results of that flooding.

Brookings was the original head office of the DM&E, so the colors they chose for this railroad are the same colors used by South Dakota State University.

Passenger Train

The Dakota Minnesota and Eastern Railroad, DM&E, owns several passenger cars which they use for employee outings and special events. This railroad used to be headquartered in Brookings, SD, but has now been purchased by the Canadian Pacific. It is unusual to see a passenger train these days, so I took some pictures.
