Monta Vista Neighborhood

This neighborhood is composed of large, elegant homes build a decade or two either side of 1900. The houses were in excellent repair, lawns tended by lawn services, the streets were clean, but there were also some indications of trouble. Nearly every house had an electronic alarm system installed, and signs saying so. A large number of these houses were for sale. Perhaps this was brought on by the collapse in the housing market nation wide. More likely it has to do with AT&T moving its home office out of San Antonio. This neighborhood is close to the AT&T building on the north side of downtown.

This place serves Southern, down home cooking in an unusual environment. Every square inch of wall space is taken up with plates of all descriptions. It is about 30 miles north of San Antonio.

Floore Store Ticket Window and Sign

The day before a predicted hard freeze these signs went up around our apartment complex. That night we got freezing rain and a 1/4 inch of snow which mostly stopped the entire city. All expressways were closed, schools cancelled, businesses failed to open, and people mostly stayed home.
