A dream of every Northerner to have an orange tree in the yard.

Eye catchers

This picture makes me wonder how well neighbors get along since the colors clash so much.

Lulu's Bakery and Cafe

Lulu's is a San Antonio fixture for huge cinnamon rolls and chicken fried steak. The rolls are three pounds each. This cafe was featured in the TV show Man vs. Food.

Practice session

New belts were adjusted properly. Helmet on, and ready to enter the paved, banked, D shaped, 1/3 mile track for about eight laps of practice. The car proved too loose on this session.

Dwarf car practice

Last Friday was the last practice before the racing season was scheduled to begin on Saturday. Jeremy and I spent Friday working on the car. We installed new safety belts, re-installed the seat, adjusted the rear axle forward, and got the new tie down system for the trailer ready. The practice session was successful in that the car's suspension was adjusted closer to a race set-up, and the new rear tires were scrubbed in some so they wouldn't be too slippery come race day. Unfortunately rain, cold temperatures, and high wind cancelled racing on Saturday.

Rent-a-Tire

Living in a city, any city, means that a percent of people there are poor. This business is aimed at those who can't afford to buy the tires on their vehicle. This is the same deal as "rent-to-own" that furniture stores have offered the poor for years. Miss a payment and find your house empty, or now, your car up on blocks. The poor always pay more for what they purchase.

Neighborhoods

There is a sizable stock of large, older homes close to downtown San Antonio. Some of these are grand palaces while others are shells of their former glory.

Local Shops

Stores are often colorful in San Antonio. These caught my eye. We haven't eaten in either of these restaurants, but there was food painted on the windows, a sign they might be good.

Farmer's Market

Last Sunday we went to a farmer's market. After walking about half way through it, I assumed that local farmers raised jewelry, nicknacks, furniture, and glass ware. There were a few food booths toward the end, even one selling spring vegetables (three kinds of radishes, and some leafy vegetables). One fellow was selling beautiful, blooming orchids, something we don't get in our farmer's market.
