This ship has been so well maintained that the figurehead doesn't have the peeling and flaking that are usually seen.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03323811980627840654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205118861048936895.post-34341033701142073312015-02-04T07:30:30.710-06:002015-02-04T07:30:30.710-06:00A gorgeous ship indeed ! The street is quite narrow and I couldn't get back far enough to get it all in plus there are a load of overhead wires in the area.RedPathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06980471119229896414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205118861048936895.post-70316830610426222772015-02-03T09:51:25.258-06:002015-02-03T09:51:25.258-06:00Thank you.Thank you.Taken For Grantedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06763027485732267570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205118861048936895.post-70451010528495859822015-02-03T09:51:08.793-06:002015-02-03T09:51:08.793-06:00Spent most of an afternoon aboard her and the Star...Spent most of an afternoon aboard her and the Star of India, another tall, square rigged ship.Taken For Grantedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06763027485732267570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205118861048936895.post-83963013232735368822015-02-03T09:49:42.193-06:002015-02-03T09:49:42.193-06:00She was built in 1970 as an exact replica of the H...She was built in 1970 as an exact replica of the HMS Rose, an 18th Century British ship which played a major role in the Am Revolutionary War. She spent more than 20 years as a training ship on the East Coast, and in 2002 was purchased by 20th Century Fox for the movie Master and Commander. She was renamed HMS Surprise. The ship now is in the hands of the Maritime Museum of San Diego which put her back into sailing trim and runs a training program for crew. She sails several times a year. I see from some research she spent quite a bit of time here in Connecticut and is in fact commissioned as a vessel in the Connecticut Naval Militia, as the HMS Rose Thanks for sharing this.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16353693465208433306noreply@blogger.com
